「意象萎縮」は相互関係にあるイベントと出版のシリーズです。イベントごとに場所や時間はそれぞれ異なった特色を持っています。「意象萎縮」の目標はインディペンデントの出版社や実験的なパフォーマンスを行うアーティストに新たな観衆と接点を持つためのプラットフォームを提供し、その出版物をアジアの隣人たちに距離や言語の壁を越えて届けること、あるいは交換の機会を設けることです。

Spectacular Atrophy is a series of events and publications, an experiment in collaborative curation, demonstration, and exposition. Each iteration is unique to its time and place, but the overall goal remains the same. While the events provide a platform for select independent publishers and experimental performing artists to reach new audiences, the publications provide a multilingual resource that supports more fruitful exchanges and collaborations amongst neighbours in the Asia Pacific — even those living 10,000 kilometres apart.

「意象萎縮」實驗共同策展、倡議與展示等種種系列活動與出版。每一次活動的策辦在時間與地域上皆有其獨特意義，但也禀持一致的目標。活動提供了精選獨立出版者、實驗性表演藝術家一個接觸新觀眾的平台，而出版物則以多種語言的方式提供亞洲太平洋地區、距離萬里之外的鄰居們一份豐富的資源、交換與合作機會。

❝激動の時代の中で興隆する芸術やその遺物を祝福します…❞

政治、経済がますます空転する中で芸術、というよりもさらに幅広い意味での表象群を保存・破壊する方法や手段はないだろうかと“意象萎縮”に携わる一同日夜思索しております。最近は特に盛んな出版文化の最前線に迫り、豊かな印刷文化を見えるように展示します。

第5会「意象萎縮 Spectacular Atrophy」（YXWS5）を開催いたします。那覇の新たなアート地区として注目を集める安里・大通り・BARRAK（バラック）をメイン会場に、現代世界の実現に向いたジンスタ、アーティスト、ブックメーカー等と協力して様々な自主制作出版を中心とした展示以外、前夜祭は、5月31日開会式の後にG-Shelterで開催されます。そこからの夜景を楽しみながら、お話に花を咲かせましょう。

❝Celebrating the arts and artefacts that thrive in tumultuous times…❞

The fifth edition of Spectacular Atrophy takes place in Naha, Okinawa, with an independent print culture exhibition at BARRAK art space and a satellite launch programme at G-Shelter, both located in the Asato area. Opening on May 31st, this exhibition features a curated selection of publications and prints produced by a range of artists, collectives, small presses, and experimental bookmakers based in cities as far flung as Taipei, Taichung, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Kaohsiung, Auckland, and Athens. Accompanying this is a display of new works by members of BARRAK.

❝慶祝所有茁壯於亂世之藝術及其衍生產物…❞

「意象萎縮」透過各種實踐長久以來不斷探問，在政治與經濟日益空轉的現下，是否有一種方法去保存抑或去破壞，所謂藝術或說更廣泛意義下的各種象徵群像，近來則是前進百花爭鳴的出版前線，以展覽的形式企圖再現豐饒之印刷文化。

第五屆「意象萎縮」微型萬博即將於沖繩那霸展開，主要會場位於以那霸市新藝術街區受到注目的安里地區之共同創作空間BARRAK。本屆「意象萎縮」微型萬博―另類印刷文化特展，集結一群有志於共同實現一個現代世界的小誌創作者、藝術家、出版人等多方之力，展出以獨立刊物為主的各種另類印刷品。本次展覽也將於5月31日開幕慶典後在G-Shelter舉行場外演展，歡迎大家一起來享受夜景、小酌暢談。

ソーシャルネットワークは全体主義的な監視のために刹那的な快楽をユーザーに提供する。対照的に独立した出版社が読者に提供するのは腐って分解出来るような紙面で、それは静かに反芻や批判させる時間を与えるし、場合によっては燃やすことも出来る。このように意象萎縮は一本の松明を提供する。光は湖面で屈折し、墓場への道のりを照らし出す。現代文明の基礎の下にある断絶を通して、地下断層に潜む問題へ向かう。「地下の世界はどうなっているか？」

『意象萎縮』が台北市から東京都に帰ってくる。Batonic Projectsが「サブストア東京」と共に復活を告げる。そして「サウンドスタジオドム」にて前夜祭が行われる。

❝In an era of truly spectacular political and economic decay...❞

Whilst social networks provide users with troughs of ever-refreshing content for the sake of ephemeral joy or totalitarian surveillance, independent publications, in contrast, provide readers with pages of ever-deteriorating paper for the sake of quiet rumination or rapid immolation. In this way, Spectacular Atrophy offers a potential torch illuminating a path leading to a ring of tombstones around a reflecting pool; it gestures toward the fault lines beneath the foundations of contemporary civilisation, posing a question to the subterranean such as What in the world is going on down there?

Batonic Projects & SUBstore present the return of Spectacular Atrophy from Taipei to Tokyo, with a satellite event hosted at Sound Studio DOM.

❝在這個政治與經濟皆令人驚愕衰敗的世代...❞

當使用者在取用網路社交平台上不斷刷新的內容，並獲得短暫快樂之餘，也受到極權主義的監視，相對之下，獨立出版物為讀者提供了會分解敗壞的紙張，得以靜靜的反思或速速的焚燒。藉由這種方式，意象萎縮或許有機會提供一把火炬，火光經過湖面折射，照亮一個通往墓碑群的路徑；通往當代文明基礎之下的斷層線，向地下底層提出一個問題：在下面的世界是什麼樣子的呢？

《意象萎縮》從臺北回歸東京，由「語言共事」和「SUBstore Tokyo」合作共同呈現，並於「Sound Studio DOM」進行前夜祭場外演展。

「意象萎縮」の第2回のイベントは2017年10月、東京都新宿にあるIrregular Rhythm Asylumで行いました。台湾のインディペンデント系出版社を中心とした一週間の展示でした。

The second edition of Spectacular Atrophy was held in October 2017 at Irregular Rhythm Asylum, an infoshop in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The exhibit featured works from independent publishers, mostly from Taiwan and a few from elsewhere.

「意象萎縮」の初のイベントは2017年5月に台北の「Red Room」で行いました。ここは中華民国空軍基地跡をリノベーションして作られた「TAF空總創新基地」というコミュニティスペース内にあります。インディペンデントの出版展、インスタレーションの展示、移動式ラジオ放送、音楽、実験的なパフォーマンスが行われました。Hyperspaceoutと共同主催されました。

The first edition of Spectacular Atrophy was held in May 2017 at Red Room, a community space in Taipei, located in the library of the former ROC Air Force Command Headquarters — now rebranded as the ‘TAF Innovation Base’. It was a small-scale independent publishing expo, an installation art exhibit, and a day of mobile radio shows, music, and experimental performances, hosted in collaboration with Hyperspaceout.

「意象萎縮」的首場活動、Hyperspaceout的第四次裝置「派」活動企劃，在2017年五月於台北「紅坊」，一個以「TAF空總創新基地」為名重新包裝的前中華民國空軍總基地中的圖書館／社區空間，包含了獨立出版者的小型會展、裝置藝術展、全天實況轉播的廣播節目、音樂、實驗性表演。

Statement of Intention:

“To share ideas around the theme of the withering of the spectacular world, and to explore what might survive being voided, or what might rise out of the rubble, were the spectacle which so dominates now to somehow self-destruct. A one-day installation exhibit and small press expo featuring live radio broadcasts, music performances, theatre, and other surprises.”

「集結空間、裝置、行為、劇場、聲響、音樂、文字、出版等等各種不同領域的創作者，就『景觀萎縮』此主題延伸出各種媒材嘗試，探索在扣除掉各種景觀社會現象生成的擬像裂隙中的我們還遺留下什麼。」
